Have fun with flowers at the Mill

The Old Mill at Cloughmills will be a profusion of colour next weekend when a Community planting day will be in full flow.

The Community Action Team is calling on volunteers to come along with the kids and help it create the floral baskets which will go up in the main street later in the spring. The new potting shed is full to the brim with seedlings ready to be planted into the baskets so its “all hands on deck” to get ready for the summer. The kids will have their own fun on the day as they will be planting out wildflower plugs at the biopark to create a pretty walkway around the newly

planted forest glade. They will get to know the primrose from the bugle when it comes taking their parents on a country walk!

All the action will start at 11 am on Saturday 14th May and will finish up with soup and sandwiches at lunchtime. All materials and equipment will be supplied and, as a treat, all families will be provided with a packet of wildflower seeds for planting at home . There will be a prize for the best photo of your wildflower planting later in the summer.

Patrick Frew , Chairperson of the Group, said that this is a great way for people to use their creativity and help Cloughmills to show their village in the best possible light.

The wildflower planting is part of a programme of activity to create a woodland glade and wildflower meadow at the mill under the Grow Wild programme sponsored by the Big Lottery and Kew Gardens .
