Take a walk down by the Old Mill this festive season and you will see our Sustainable Christmas tree – a beautiful sight to behold in the evening twilight and into the night.

It demonstrates the re-use of scrap materials in an artistic redesign of the traditional Christmas tree by local artist, Jackie Dougan.

The Community Action Team have built the structure from old cable reels supplied by Dowds Electrics, gold insulation materials from Play Resources and painted mini footballs donated by All-Tex Recyclers. Old material sample swatches were used to create the nativity scenes which adorn the structure and the lighting on the tree is powers by solar panels installed by Eco Systems Direct.

We are grateful to the Big Lottery for funding for this project under their “Awards for All” programme and a very big thank you to Jackie and the team of volunteers who worked under her direction to erect the structures , do the painting and install the decorations – a great team effort .
